Ground Source Heat Pumps:

Ground
Source Heat Pumps provide cost effective alternative systems with negligible
maintenance and are one of the fastest growing applications of renewable and
sustainable energy in the world. They provide domestic hot water and heating.
The energy stored in the ground is an excellent free resource to provide for
your building. The ground temperature in the UK can generally be defined into
three distinct regions. Firstly, there is a variable
temperature zone going down 4 metres into the ground. Secondly, the next 100 metres
or so is constant throughout the year due to the large thermal mass of the
ground. From around 100 metres and below the ground temperature warms due to
radioactive decay effects.
Ground Source Heat Pumps are ideal to tap into the thermal resource found in
the first two regions. There are four ways of utilising the grounds
energy. These are horizontal ground loops (pictured above), vertical
ground loops, closed pond loops and open pond loop. Our technical staff will
guide you through the most suitable ground energy collector.
Here at PowerNaturally we use Danfoss Ground Source Heat Pumps due to the
quality, reliability and service of their products that they give both their
installers and customers. Below are three videos the first explaining how their
Heat Pumps work and then two explaining the two main installation types of
ground loops.
